Fried green tomatoes are crispy, tangy, and downright addictive. Here’s a classic version
🥘 Ingredients (serves 4)

4 medium green (unripe) tomatoes

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

½ cup buttermilk (or regular milk with a splash of lemon juice)

1 cup cornmeal (or ½ cornmeal + ½ breadcrumbs for extra crunch)

1 tsp garlic powder
-
½ tsp paprika
-
½ tsp salt
-
¼ tsp black pepper
-
Oil for frying (vegetable or peanut oil)

1. Prep the Tomatoes

Slice tomatoes into ½-inch rounds.

Lightly salt both sides and let them sit on paper towels 10 minutes to draw out moisture. Pat dry.
2. Set Up Breading Station

Bowl 1: Flour.

Bowl 2: Eggs + buttermilk.

Bowl 3: Cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
3. Bread the Tomatoes

Dredge each tomato slice in flour → dip in egg mixture → coat well with cornmeal mixture.
4. Fry

Heat ½ inch oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

Fry tomatoes 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.

Drain on paper towels.
